Products from Shungite Tolvu
At Shungite Tolvu, we don’t just sell shungite — we take full responsibility for every gram of genuine Karelian stone. That is why our store voluntarily obtained official certification — becoming a verified source of Certified Shungite, confirmed by Russian state laboratories. For us, this is not a formality — it’s a principle: complete honesty with our customers is the only acceptable standard.

We’ve also registered our brand, Shungite Tolvu, in both the European Union and the United States to ensure maximum legal protection for our products and to defend the authenticity of real shungite on the international stage.
The certificate our company received is not a decorative piece of paper printed at home. It’s an official document, backed by state authorities and scientific laboratories — confirming that our shungite has been thoroughly tested, officially classified, and scientifically recognized as genuine Karelian stone.
We didn’t go through this demanding process for appearances or marketing points. We did it for you — so you can be absolutely certain: Shungite Tolvu is not just a brand. It’s a promise of authenticity, transparency, and legal purity in every product we offer.
Certificate Validity Period
The official Russian Certificate of Authenticity and Product Quality is valid for three years and must be renewed regularly to stay in effect. We received our first certificate in 2020 and successfully renewed it in 2023. The next renewal is scheduled for November 2026. Until then, all our products fully comply with recognized standards of authenticity and quality.
Why Shungite Certification Matters
Shungite’s popularity has skyrocketed — especially among those seeking natural EMF protection and water purification. But growing demand has also led to a surge in counterfeits. Not all silver or black stones marketed as shungite are the real deal. So how can you be sure you’re buying authentic Karelian stone? The answer is clear: certification.
What Is Certified Shungite?
Certified shungite is a product that has undergone laboratory analysis to confirm its authenticity and carbon composition. In Russia, leading institutions like the Institute of Geology in Petrozavodsk (part of the Russian Academy of Sciences) conduct these tests. Based on the results, the stone is classified into three main types:
- Type I (Elite/Noble) – over 98% carbon
- Type II – around 60% carbon
- Type III (Classic Black) – approx. 30–35% carbon
Type III is the most widely used form in EMF protection, water purification, and wellness applications. It’s also the variety most commonly studied by researchers for its electromagnetic shielding potential.
🪨 Most Common Shungite Fakes
- Hematite — Black and shiny like elite shungite, but made of iron. It conducts electricity, but it’s iron ore, not carbon-based.
- Anthracite — A type of coal with layered texture. Shiny, yes — but conductivity is weak. Commonly sold as “elite” on eBay.
- Magnetite — Very magnetic and metallic, often confused with elite stone. Real shungite is not magnetic.
- Obsidian — Volcanic glass, shiny and black, but non-conductive.
- Colombian Shungite — This doesn’t exist. These are typically anthracite rocks or asphalt-like minerals.
- Terahertz Stone — Fake industrial silicon waste, often from China/India. Contains titanium and other unsafe chemicals.
Mandatory vs. Voluntary Certification in Russia
Shungite is not on the Russian government’s list of goods that require mandatory certification, as it’s considered naturally safe. This means many sellers operate without any official documentation. However, Shungite Tolvu has chosen to go further — obtaining voluntary certificates to ensure transparency, build trust, and meet the highest standards of quality.
⚠️ Be cautious: some shops create their own “certificates” — attractive but unofficial designs with no legal or scientific backing.
Does Shungite Tolvu Have Certificates?
Yes. All our shungite is tested at the Karelian Institute of Geology in Petrozavodsk. Our products are supported by official voluntary certificates, with laboratory documentation available to view or download on our website.
How Is It Tested?
Certified shungite undergoes several laboratory analyses. The most important is the carbon content test — higher carbon means higher quality. Other testing parameters include:
- Electrical conductivity
- Magnetic properties
- Antibacterial activity
- Structural composition (including fullerene content)
The carbon concentration is directly linked to the presence of fullerenes — a unique molecular structure believed to play a key role in shungite’s health properties.
How to Identify Authenticity Shungite and Avoid Imitations
To make sure you’re buying real Karelian shungite:
✅ Look for verified lab certificates from Russian institutions
✅ Check carbon content — Type III starts around 30%, Type I must exceed 98%
✅ Be wary of overly cheap offers and unrealistic claims
✅ Avoid “certificates” made in Photoshop — real ones include institutional stamps and scientific test data
✅Shungite Does Not Burn.
Real shungite is a natural mineral and does not ignite or melt when exposed to flame. In contrast, fakes made from plastic, epoxy, or orgonite will burn, melt, or release a chemical smell. This is a simple but effective way to spot imitations.
🔥 Fire test = quick authenticity check.
Origin: Only found in Karelia, Russia
✅Type I (Elite): ~98% carbon, silver metallic shine, glass-like surface.
✅Type III (Classic Black Shungite): Deep black matte color, with visible veins of pyrite (golden) and quartz (whitish) on the surface. Raw pieces may leave black marks on your hands due to natural shungite dust. Сarbon content ~32%.
✅Conductivity: Very high — almost like metal — a key sign of authenticity.
✅Streak test: Leaves a black powder with metallic tint
✅Not magnetic, but conducts electricity. Real shungite is not magnetic in solid form.
But when it’s ground into a very fine powder (below 1 micron), it can show weak magnetic properties. This happens because:
At the micro level, natural iron-containing inclusions (like pyrite or iron oxides) become more exposed.
The extremely small particle size allows electrons to behave differently, increasing magnetic sensitivity.
This is a known physical effect — not a sign of impurities or fake material.
It’s called superparamagnetism and occurs in many natural minerals when pulverized to a fine dust.
So, if your shungite powder reacts slightly to a magnet — it’s a normal and scientifically explained effect of the particle size, not a flaw.
Test Shungite with a Multimeter (200 kΩ setting):
✅Real elite shungite (Type I) and black classic shungite (Type III): ~0 Ohms
⚠️ Fake stones (Hematite, Anthracite): Hundreds of thousands to millions of Ohms
Elite Certified Shungite from the Source
We are proud to offer samples of genuine elite shungite from near the village of Shunga in Karelia — the very birthplace of this rare mineral. Due to its high carbon content and limited natural reserves, elite shungite is not used for mass production. It is fragile, rare, and scientifically significant.
Our samples have undergone advanced analysis at the Analytical Center in Petrozavodsk, including:
- Quantitative Chemical Analysis (QCA)
- X-ray Fluorescence (XRF)
These tests confirmed the structure and purity of our elite stones. All lab reports and documentation are available for review.
One Last Reminder: Authenticity Shungite Only Comes from Karelia
Beware of sellers claiming to offer “elite shungite” from places like Canada, Colombia, or Ukraine. While these countries may have carbon-rich rocks, they do not contain the unique composition of Karelian shungite. There is only one true origin — Karelia, Russia.
Final Thoughts
Certification is not just a checkbox — it’s your safeguard against imitations. If you’re investing in shungite for EMF protection or wellness, make sure it’s tested, verified, and traceable. At Shungite Tolvu, we provide exactly that: certified, lab-tested shungite, backed by science and integrity. Learn more about the real shungite stone in our article – What is shungite.
Remember:
Just because it’s black or shiny doesn’t mean it’s real.
Fake shungite = no energy, no effect.
Certified Shungite = real protection, real results.
